Podcast #19: Having Realistic Expectations when it comes to Weight Loss

Podcast #19: Having Realistic Expectations when it comes to Weight Loss

How many of us can relate to the above meme? I know I can.

But we often forget that it’s a LOT easier to GAIN extra body fat than it is to LOSE it. And despite living in a world of wanting instant results and instant gratification (thanks Instagram…) it’s important to give ourselves a reality check every once in a while (or slap upside the head…) and remember that it probably didn’t take you 12 weeks to gain your extra body fat. So how can any of us possibly expect that it’s all going to magically disappear in 12 short weeks?!

So I’m really excited to share this week’s podcast episode!

And it’s an absolute MUST LISTEN for any fitness competitor or aspiring physique competitor or anyone who’s stuck in a diet or weight loss “rut.”

Thanks to my years of bikini competing, I know I’m certainly guilty of always comparing my fluffier, well-fed, off-season body to my lean & svelte (mind you, hungry & depleted) stage body. And I’m pretty sure that almost all of us (competitor or not) have at some point, yearned to resemble the younger version of ourselves or the skinniest version. Am I right?

Unfortunately, many factors such as genetics and lifestyle choices can certainly get in the way of achieving our desired weight loss. And yes, it totally sucks that our metabolism does slow down over time and my vegan coaching packages do NOT include a time machine. But thankfully, through resistance training and being CONSISTENT with our training and healthy eating, we can build muscle mass and lose body fat and literally slow down the aging process! 🙂

So this week on the podcast, we’re covering all kinds of juicy bodybuilding and body fat topics!

We discuss how weight training can help reverse aging (oh yes!) and how fitness competing and “prep life” can seriously mess with your head.

PLUS we’re covering what a realistic, healthy and attainable body fat percentage looks like (both on and off season) and why your body fat does not and should not ever define YOU.

And we delve into the dangers of having too LOW of a body fat percentage and why I’ve always been an advocate for planned, weekly “cheat meals” when it comes to weight loss.

I think there’s a lot of good shit in this episode but I might be biased… So give it a listen for yourself and let me know if you agree. 🙂

Best podcast feedback EVER!!! This truly made my day and motivates me to keep putting out episodes. Thank you, Adiy and I’m super excited to work with you :)

I will confess that I listen to your podcast with your sister Sarah and I love it! Actually, I’ve been contemplating reaching out to you for a while and your latest podcast about expectations is the reason I finally decided to reach out to you. I found your views about expectations very refreshing and honest! It really spoke to me as I do find myself setting unrealistic expectations about my overall health and weight. I weighed 272 lbs earlier this year when I was diagnosed with severe depression. The heaviest I’ve ever weighed, actually. I weighed 190 lbs when I met my wife 12 years ago. It took me 12 years to gain the 82 lbs and I sometimes expect it all to go away in a couple of months! I was happy to hear your perspective on your podcast. Thank you for doing this!

BAHAHAHAHA re: cutting off the sleeves. Jolly good idea, Robert! Said with a Brit-ish accent And yeah, Dad was not cool about the joke. But the rest of us thought it was funny. I would’ve pegged you no older than 44. But I may or may not just be vegan-buttering you up so you keep subscribing to the podcast ;)

-Loved the review of me by Sarah! “That’s not a knife, this is a knife” – too funny; if I was Australian! LMAO!. What on earth did your dad ever say about the adult depends when he found out you ordered them? I set a buddy up once and had a UK boarding school call his dad about sending him there! – lol – I’m such an ass! Thanks for the gift of the short armed hoody! I’m sure if I ever bulk up like Jordan at Conscious Muscle I can rip the arms off and look massive!. Then again; I’ve been trying to bulk up for my entire life and the universe determined 165lbs will be my body weight regardless of what I do – ha-ha. Anyhow, I know I’m late getting this to you; but if you have any left I’d love one. WHOOOOO stop the bus… you said Sarah was 41?, a little earlier in the show you said I was more like Sarah’s age.. lol – I love you! I’m 48 in a couple of weeks – lol. I guess all my healthy eating pays off right :)
